ALBUQUERQUE, NM– Today, the New Mexico chapter of the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, formerly known as NAIOP New Mexico, joined its national organization in announcing a new name that better reflects the breadth of what its members build, finance, and champion across the state.
The rebranding coincides with a milestone year for the local chapter: 2026 marks its 40th anniversary of official incorporation with the national association, a relationship that dates to 1986. Over those four decades, the chapter has grown to represent more than 280 members statewide, ranging from developers and owners to investors and the professionals who support New Mexico’s commercial real estate industry.
“This new name gives the public and policymakers a clearer picture of who we are and what our members do,” said Rhiannon Samuel, Executive Director of the New Mexico Chapter of the Commercial Real Estate Development Association. “For 40 years, our chapter has been the go-to voice for commercial real estate in New Mexico, and that doesn’t change. What changes is that our name finally says it plainly.”
The Commercial Real Estate Development Association name more accurately captures the full range of projects New Mexico members are delivering, including multifamily housing, retail, logistics and industrial facilities, office and mixed-use developments, and the infrastructure that supports a growing state economy.
Nationally, the rebrand follows a multiyear process that included member surveys, focus groups, stakeholder interviews, and strategic planning. The Commercial Real Estate Development Association now represents more than 21,000 members through 55 chapters across North America. The national association was originally founded in 1967.
“Commercial real estate development has never been more important to the future of our communities and economy,” said Marc Selvitelli, CAE, president and CEO of the Commercial Real Estate Development Association. “Our members are creating the housing, workplaces, logistics networks and digital infrastructure that people and businesses depend on every day.”
